An object – means a thing that can be seen.

Size – means if a shape is big or little.
To touch – means to feel.
Now let’s read and translate the text. While reading underline the new words.
The skin is a sense organ. Another sense that tells me about my surrounding is called touch. My skin keeps my body from being hurt. My skin keeps dirt out. My skin also keeps my body from being too hot or too cold.
The skin has many little holes called pores. When my body is too hot, these pores open. When they open, my skin gets wet. When my skin gets wet, heat leaves my body, and I feel cool.
When I get cold, the pores will not open. The pores close to keep  heat inside my body. Sometimes bumps appear on my skin. These bumps help hold the heat in my body.
When I go outside in the cool air without my coat, my skin gets little bumps. After I put on my coat, my body begins to hold heat. The little bumps go away. The little bumps only appear on my skin when my body feels cold.
  Post-reading.

          Read the text.

Hi, Diana!
I’m writing to you about my holiday in America. On the first of July I travelled to the States with my parents. My dad went there on business, and he took mum and me with him. We stayed in New York with his friends for two weeks. On July 4th they celebrated their favourite holiday, Independence Day. There was a street party in the centre of the city and in the afternoon we watched an American football match. And in the evening there were huge fireworks. There were lots of people outdoors. They shouted and cheered. The next day we made a sightseeing tour of the city centre on a tourist bus. There are a lot of huge skyscrapers, hotels, yellow cabs, interesting museums and shops in New York. We were on the Brooklyn Bridge, saw the Statue of Liberty. It is really wonderful! Then we visited the fantastic Art Gallery and walked around shops all day. Our plane to Kyiv was on the 15th. I’ll never forget my journey to New York!
Lots of love,
Alice

Тема: Смак.
In this lesson we will learn about the sense of tasting.
 Let’s review the sound [əu]
    Repeat
            1.go, note, rese, so, no, smoke, tone;
2.Home is home. Be it ever so homely.
Make up the sentences with these words.
repeat the words after me:
An object
Behind
To protect
A message
A taste
Salty
sour
Pre-reading activities:
Now try to guess what these words mean
An object – means a thing that can be seen.
Behind – means in back of another.
A message – means a letter.
To protect – means to care.
Make up the sentences with these words.
Now let’s read and translate the text. While reading underline the new words.
Taste is the ability to respond to dissolved molecules and ions.
Humans detect taste with taste receptor cells. These are clustered in taste buds and scattered in other areas of the body. Each taste bud has a pore that opens out to the surface of the tongue enabling molecules and ions taken into the mouth to reach the receptor cells inside.
There are five primary taste sensations:
salty
sour
sweet
bitter
umami
Properties of the taste system.
A single taste bud contains 50–100 taste cells representing all 5 taste sensations (so the classic textbook pictures showing separate taste areas on the tongue are wrong).
Each taste cell has receptors on its apical surface.
A single taste cell seems to be restricted to expressing only a single type of receptor (except for bitter receptors).
A stimulated taste receptor cell triggers action potentials in a nearby sensory neuron leading back to the brain.
However, a single sensory neuron can be connected to several taste cells in each of several different taste buds.
The sensation of taste — like all sensations — resides in the brain.
And in mice, at least, the sensory neurons for four of the tastes (not sour) transmit their information to four discrete areas of the brain.
 Post-reading.
put the right word on the blank.
It is the sense of_______.
There are … primary taste sensations.
Each taste cell has receptors on its apical…
The sensation of taste — like all sensations — resides in the…
taste cells in each of several different taste…
T: answer my questions:
What is a sense of tasting?
How many taste sensation do you know?
Thank you!
