1. Preposition of time AT is used for expressing the precise time.

Examples:

At three o’clock – о третій годині

At midnight – опівночі

At sunrise – на сході сонця

2. Preposition of time ONis used for days

 and dates.

Examples:

On Saturday – у суботу

On the 7th of July – сьомого липня

3. Preposition of time IN is used 

for months, years, centuries and long periods.

Examples:

In 2010 – у 2010 році

In January – у січні

BUT! We don’t use AT, IN, ON with the words last, next, every, this:

This year – у цьому році

Last week – минулого тижня

Next month – наступного місяця

Every morning – кожного ранку

Word-combinations with preposition IN

In spring – навесні

In summer – влітку

In autumn – восени

In winter – взимку

In the morning – вранці

In the afternoon – вдень

In the evening – ввечері

BUT: at night – вночі

4. Preposition of time BY indicates the deadline.

Examples:

By 3 o’clock – до третьої години

By 2010 – до 2010 року

By next day – до наступного дня

5. Preposition of time SINCE indicates the beginning point in time.

Examples:

Since last week – з минулого тижня

Since autumn – з осені

Since evening – з вечора
